Galtonia Viridiflora - Summer Hyacinth
Feb 4th, 2008 by Chris
I sowed twelve of these strange looking seeds in moist compost and after covering them with cling film I sat them in the airing cupboard. Germination should be in 14-30 days when the tray should be removed from the heat but kept undisturbed until next spring.
The stems carry apple green, waxy flowers that hang in snowdrop fashion. A hardy perennial it forms fleshy, erect green leaves. When established the leaves shoot from a bulb in early Spring, flowering mid to late Summer. The bulbs are best undisturbed for at least four years.
